Gold - Sandustry Wiki

Learn how Gold is produced in Sandustry, how Shakers separate it from Wet Sand, and why Gold must reach Collector tiles before Research use.

Overview

Gold is a solid material used to unlock Research in Sandustry. In the opening production chain, a Shaker processes Wet Sand and may extract Gold, which must then reach Collector tiles before it appears in the player’s available bank.

This page reflects the official Wiki and current Early Access gameplay evidence checked on August 17, 2026. It does not publish fixed Gold yields, best-production claims, or unverified later-game uses.

How to Obtain

Current Early Access tutorial gameplay first shows players recovering Gold by manually shaking Wet Sand. The first automated method uses a Shaker: place Wet Sand on top, and each processed pixel has a 25% chance to also produce one Gold pixel.

The official Gold page also lists Kinetic Press and Flower as Gold sources. Their inputs and production chains are outside this page’s verified scope, so no later recipe or output claim is provided here.

How It Works

Stage Verified Behavior
Input chain Water contacts Sand to create Wet Sand, which is placed on top of a Shaker.
Processing Every Wet Sand pixel becomes Residue and has a 25% chance to also produce one Gold pixel.
Movement Gold passes through the Shaker and drops from the bottom; the official Wiki also describes Gold as sinking toward the bottom of mixed piles.
Storage Gold only becomes available in the player’s bank while it is inside Collector tiles.

The probability does not promise a fixed result from every fourth pixel or from any small batch.

Used For

  • Research: Gold is spent to unlock new technologies.
  • Progression: The official Gold page identifies it as one of the two major progression materials, alongside Fluxite.
  • Available currency: Gold inside Collector tiles appears in the HUD and can be spent; loose Gold elsewhere does not count toward that available bank.

This page does not publish unverified Research costs, unlock order, construction uses, or later Gold-processing recipes.

  • Shaker — the first automated Gold source; it processes Wet Sand and lets Gold pass through the bottom.
  • Collector — counts Gold inside its tiles as available Research currency.
  • Kinetic Press — listed by the official Gold page as another source, but its production chain is outside this page’s scope.
  • Water — combines with Sand upstream to create Wet Sand.
  • Wet Sand — the Shaker input used in the opening Gold chain.
  • Residue — the guaranteed output from processed Wet Sand; Gold is the additional probabilistic output.
  • Fluxite — identified by the official Gold page as the other major progression material.

Tips and Notes

  • Route Gold into Collector tiles before trying to spend it on Research. Seeing loose Gold below a Shaker does not mean it is available in the HUD.
  • Treat Shaker Gold as probabilistic. A short run can produce more or less than another run with the same amount of Wet Sand.
  • Keep the path below the Shaker open so Gold can fall toward the collection area.
  • Do not convert one player test into a fixed Shaker yield or universal Gold-production ratio.
  • The checked sources do not establish one universally optimal machine count or filtering layout.

FAQ

How do you get Gold early in Sandustry?

Current Early Access gameplay first shows manual recovery from Wet Sand, followed by automated processing with a Shaker. Put Wet Sand on top of the Shaker and route any Gold that exits below into Collector tiles.

Is Gold guaranteed from every Wet Sand pixel?

No. Each processed Wet Sand pixel becomes Residue and has a 25% chance to also produce one Gold pixel. The probability does not guarantee a fixed amount from a small batch.

Why can I see Gold but cannot spend it?

Gold only appears in the available bank and becomes spendable while it is sitting inside Collector tiles. Loose Gold elsewhere in the factory does not meet that condition.

What is Gold used for?

Gold is used to unlock Research technologies. This page does not assign fixed costs or a permanent unlock order because those details are outside its verified scope.

Does Gold always fall through a Shaker?

Gold is the only solid pixel the official Shaker page says can pass through the machine. It drops from the bottom, while Residue remains above the Shaker.
