Conveyor Belt - Sandustry Wiki

Learn how Conveyor Belts move solid materials in Sandustry, connect sorting routes, and why a blocked bottom pixel can stop an entire pile.

Overview

The Conveyor Belt is a logistics Building that moves solid pixels horizontally through a Sandustry factory. It provides the continuing transport path used around sorting Buildings such as the Filter and can deliver material to a Launcher for vertical movement.

This page reflects the current Early Access behavior documented by the official Wiki. Build costs and unlock details should be checked in the Objectives and Research interface for the version being played.

How to Obtain

The checked official sources establish the Conveyor Belt as a player-placed logistics Building but do not provide a stable cost or unlock order for this page. Follow the current in-game Objectives and Research interface before building a logistics route.

How It Works

Stage Verified Behavior
Input Solid pixels land on the Conveyor Belt.
Movement Pixels touching the Belt move in its indicated direction.
Output Pixels reaching the end are pushed over the edge when space is available.
Blockage If the bottom pixel cannot move forward, the pixels behind and above it wait.

Only the bottom layer directly touching the Conveyor Belt is moved by the Building. Material higher in a pile travels because the lower pixels carry it, so a blocked contact layer can stop the whole pile.

Used For

  • Moving solid materials horizontally between factory areas.
  • Carrying unsorted or continuing material along a Filter route.
  • Delivering solid material to a Launcher when the route needs vertical or sideways movement.
  • Moving outputs such as Gold toward their next destination.

Conveyor Belts move material; they do not process it or change one resource into another.

  • Filter: uses a Conveyor-style path for pixels that do not fall through under its current Allow or Block rule.
  • Launcher: moves solid pixels upward and can send them sideways after a Conveyor route reaches it.
  • Pipe: transports supported liquids through a separate fluid network rather than moving solid pixels.
  • Liquid Vent: releases liquid at the output end of that separate fluid network.
  • Gold: one solid material shown being transported by a Conveyor Belt in the official Wiki.

Tips and Notes

  • Use the Belt’s movement animation to confirm its travel direction before adding material.
  • If a pile stops, inspect the downstream exit and the bottom pixels touching the Belt before changing the rest of the route.
  • Make sure the end of the Belt has space for material to leave.
  • Liquids do not follow Conveyor Belt direction; use the Pipe and Liquid Vent system for automated liquid transport.

FAQ

What does the Conveyor Belt do in Sandustry?

It moves solid pixels horizontally in its indicated direction and pushes them over the end when the destination has space.

What materials can Conveyor Belts move?

The official Wiki describes Conveyor Belts as transporting solid pixels. Gold is one documented example. Liquids do not follow the Belt’s travel direction.

How does a Conveyor Belt work with a Filter?

The Filter continues to act like a Conveyor Belt for material that stays on the route. An Allow rule lets the selected resource fall through; a Block rule keeps the selected resource on the Belt while other eligible material falls through.

Why has my Conveyor Belt stopped moving material?

Check the first blocked pixel at the bottom of the pile and make sure there is space ahead or over the end. Because only pixels touching the Belt move directly, one blocked bottom pixel can make everything behind and above it wait.
